WHO are we looking for?


We are seeking a full-time Corporate Counsel Employment Law with significant employment law experience, to join our internal legal team. As Corporate Counsel, you will provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on a broad range of employment matters while helping the firm mitigate legal and operational risk. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to Human Resources, business leaders, and executive management on employment-related issues affecting the firm’s workforce and growth objectives.

 

The successful candidate will regularly advise on employment law issues across multiple jurisdictions and provide guidance on federal, state, and local legal requirements affecting the firm's workforce. The successful candidate will have substantial experience advising on employee relations matters, restrictive covenants, confidentiality and non-solicitation agreements, employee mobility issues, workforce management, and employment-related compliance matters for national employers. In addition, the successful candidate may assist on other corporate legal matters as needed. Our ideal candidate is comfortable working with all levels of management to understand business objectives and develop practical legal solutions that balance risk and business needs. The internal title for this role is intended to be Corporate Counsel | Legal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on employment law matters affecting the firm and its affiliates
  • Work closely with Human Resources to manage and operate within our employee relations framework, including managing or partnering on escalations, templates, and other employee-related matters as they arise
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on employment contracts, transaction documents, and internal equity, incentive, and ownership agreements, including non-competes, non-solicitation, non-disclosure, confidentiality, and other protective covenant arrangements
  • Advise management and Human Resources on legal matters related to employee hiring, onboarding, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence, and workplace investigations
  • Advise on legal issues relating to accessibility, accommodations, and disability rights compliance, including matters arising under Titles I and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as applicable to the firm's workforce and business operations
  • Counsel the HR team and business leaders regarding employee mobility, recruitment of experienced professionals, and legal risks associated with competitive hiring practices
  • Manage the templates for employment contracts, equity agreements, and other employment-related documents making updates as needed to comply with federal and local law and streamlining wherever possible
  • Assist with legal, employment-related due diligence and integration matters arising in acquisitions, mergers, and strategic transactions
  • Monitor and advise on federal, state, and local employment law developments and recommend policy or practice changes as appropriate
  • Execute projects through completion while coordinating with stakeholders across multiple business functions
  • Identify potential legal issues and coordinate with appropriate stakeholders and outside counsel as necessary
  • Communicate clearly, accurately, and authoritatively across all levels of the organization
  • Provide general corporate legal support and counsel to business groups across the firm as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5-8 years of employment law experience, including substantial experience advising employers and significant experience with multi-state employment law compliance and counseling.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on corporate and contractual matters.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, negotiation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice while effectively managing risk.
  • Experience with an Am Law 200 law firm and/or a sophisticated in-house legal department.
  • Experience supporting professional services, financial services, consulting, or other knowledge-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with executive compensation, equity compensation, and employment-related aspects of transactions.
  • Experience with Titles I and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders and build strong cross-functional relationships.
